Introducing Jess Campbell Plover
Bio
Jessica Campbell-Plover is an independent graffiti and multi-disciplinary artist based in Plymouth. She studied a Fashion Design BA at the University of South Wales and a Costume Design MA at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama but fell in love with spray painting six years ago. She now creates her artwork in her home studio and in available public spaces. Jess' artwork mixes together elements of fashion illustration, street art and confrontational statements through a variety of mediums such as spray paint, collage, acrylic paint, customised clothing, textiles, and digital work. Jess’ subject matter often explores socio-political subjects, with much focus based around the modern upsurge of feminism, gender issues and youth disenchantment, as her form of protest art. Her creations are inspired by a variety of weird and wonderful sources, such as vintage pin up imagery, style subcultures, abandoned places, neon lights, fairground art, dark comedy and album artwork. She has utilised these passions and interests by creating artworks for Trevi House Women’s Charity, The Barbican Theatre, and provided workshops inspired by protest art for schools and The National Theatre's Speak Up programme. In addition, she works with Plymouth Artist’s Together who regenerate public spaces around the city.
